About Falcon Kayak Sails
You can get a picture of Falcon Sails by asking the following question.
What do you get when you put together a group of fanatical kayakers that are also wind surfers, keel boat racers, day sailors, engineers, product designers, and serial entrepreneurs, in the middle of the largest fresh water lake system in the world? In this case, it has lead to is a business that has a single focus. Designing & producing the best compact and easy to use kayak sailing rigs ever made.
Here is our story. Some years back one of us in our group of kayaking friends
bought a Kayak Sail kit.
Most all of us thought it was a waste of time & asked the question
why go kayak sailing?
After a few years another one of us bought a sail kit. That changed everything. It was not just 1 paddler talking about how fun it was. Now 2 paddlers in our group where always way ahead and having way more fun when the wind was up. It became obvious those with a good sail rig have a huge advantage in speed and fun. Go to our why go kayak sailing page to get up to speed on why members of our group changed our minds so fast.
The only problem was there where no good compact sail rigs available.
Then came the anal retentive nature of some experienced sailors & wind surfers knowing things could be so much better. All we wanted was a compact sail kit that had a proper air foil shape with a smart rig and quality materials that was not going to slow us down at the launch site or when the wind was not blowing. We figured of course that rig was just a short Google search away. Well we where wrong. We made a list of all the sail rigs we found and have included it in this website. It was time to make our own kayak sailing rig that was had the traits we where looking for. That is how Falcon Sails started.
Step forward in time. Now we have perfected our design. Our rig is light weight, and compact. It is out of the way when we are not sailing, and we can put it on our kayaks in about 30 seconds at the launch site. Our sail is aerodynamic with the maximum up wind potential. It is great for day paddles, and multi day wilderness trips. It makes perfect sense to make the rig available to everybody who wants one. Combine that with one of us kayak sailing fanatics looking for a way to quit his day job and spend all his time on kayaking and kayak related activities. That is great motivation to refine the design and make it available for everybody who wants one. Take a look at pictures of our sail rigs to see what we have available.
